Boxer III sculpture mold creation
-
Description
-
Pat Costello working on the mold of "Boxer III" in his studio. A finished clay version of the sculpture is being wrapped in a rubber-like substance and then covered in plaster to create a mold from which the next phase of the sculpture would be cast.
-
Boxer III was a recreation of Pacific University's original bronze "Boxer" mascot, which was a bronze Chinese incense burner in the form of a qilin. The original statue was missing from 1969-2024. This photograph was taken by Bruce Bishop (Pacific University Class of 1968), who was among the group of alumni who funded the creation of Boxer III.
