In July 1892 Cyrus and Mary Walker resigned from the Warm Springs Agency and moved to Linn County, most likely to the land Mary received from her parents in 1889. During the next three and a half years Cyrus Walker was often involved as a witness in a legal trial of Indian Agent William W. Dougherty for his work at the Warm Springs Reservation. Due to financial hardship, Cyrus Walker returned to work at Warm Springs from December 31, 1895 through late July, 1896. During these months many changes occured in Cyrus Walker's personal and professional life. Three events of note in his personal life include his reconnection with Lucy Adela Walker, the birth of Vernal May Walker, his third child with Mary, and the death of his mother Eliza D. Wheeler. In June, towards the end of his final tenure at Warm Springs, a new Indian Agent arrived to Warm Springs. Cyrus Walker admired the man but faced increasing frustrations and delays in receiving his salary until his decision to leave in late July.
