An Old Pioneer: 1896 and later

Cyrus Walker spent the rest of his life living in Linn County with his family. He continued to work for many years as notary public, as well as seeking a military pension in 1898 for his service in the Civil War. In Spring 1904 Mary underwent surgery and took many months to recover. During this time he wrote her many letters and in last twenty-five years often wrote to his children as they grew up and attended school. In his old age he was considered a celebrity, regarded as one of the most well-known and longest living of the original Oregon pioneers. He died while visiting his sons May 5th, 1921.
