Portland Sept. 17, [18]79
Profr. Jos. W. Marsh
Forest Grove
My dear Sir:
My rheumatism has quite disabled me. Shall require some treatment that I can not have at the Grove in order not to have a really serious affair of it. Had supposed it was nothing but a little matter of malarial trouble, and that Doctor [G-?] might help me out with a little medicine.
However I have pushed some university matters with Doctor Atkinson and so shall endeavor to make the most of my time, out of bed, here in Portland, [tell?].
I do not now know why next Monday's train can not bring me back to Forest Grove.
Very truly yours,
M.C.
