The Phillip & Leigh Creighton Art Collection

Dr. Choy established this collection to honor Pacific University’s 16th president, Dr. Phillip Creighton and his wife, Leigh. The collection includes paintings, photographs, raku and other pottery, glass and wood objects, and mixed media works. As the collection has grown, Dr. Choy has added pieces honoring other Pacific people, including the university’s 17th president, Dr. Lesley Hallick.

The Creighton Collection is integrated into the Permanent Art Collection at Pacific, which is an invaluable resource for the university and surrounding community.  Representative works from the Creighton Collection are shown below. A layered artwork made of various etching prints that have been burned and adhered to one another. The frame creates a shadowbox effect that adds another dimension to the work.

  • Dazu Rock Carvings 1
One of two black and white photographs taken in the early 1980s of the Dazu rock carvings in china. The carvings are in the high mountains and not easily accessible which explains why many if the larger than life size carvings in the mountain caves survived the destruction of the Red Guards. The photographs from the artist's China Trips were exhibited soon after the trip at The Rourke Gallery in Moorhean, Montana. This photograph captures three statues with ornate clothing and closed eyes.
