Description: A short statement by U.S. Congressman Les AuCoin on the defeat of a proposed constitutional amendment in the House of Representatives to ban busing. Congressman AuCoin called the defeat of the proposed constitutional amendment a "victory for those who seek a just and more equal society." Busing, also called desegration busing or race-integration busing, was the practice of busing students to public schools outside of or within their school district in order to encourage racial integration.
