Description: A field hearing speech by U.S. Congressman Les AuCoin on the "200 mile law" that added protections to the American coastal fishing limit in Astoria, Oregon. Congressman AuCoin was in the presence of staff of the Subcommittee on Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation and the Environment of the House Committee on Merchant Marine Fisheries. AuCoin was a proponent of the law, but noticed it had some unforseen negative impacts after its passing, including the allocation of salmon. This is one of a collection of digitized objects from the Les AuCoin Papers (MS.147) at the Pacific University Archives. AuCoin served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1971-1975) and in the United States House of Representatives from Oregon's 1st District (1975-1993).
