Atiyeh with Fellow Fishermen on the Shores of the Umpqua River

Alongside his many professional activities, Governor Atiyeh was active in sports and hobbies. An accomplished marksman and collector of historic guns, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and helped to start the Oregon Arms Collectors club. He also collected historic books and documents, with special interest in Oregon history. He liked whittling small wooden objects, which he would give as gifts to family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, golf, and visiting friends across the state. He formed an especially close relationship with the Warm Springs tribe: during his latter years, Vic could often be seen wearing his Kah-Nee-Tah jacket from their hot springs resort.
