Atiyeh Bros., Inc.

Vic, Edward and Richard Atiyeh at their rug cleaning plant, 1960s

Vic Atiyeh's father, George, and uncle, Aziz, emigrated to America just before the turn of the 20th century. They first settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, but soon moved to Portland because someone had advised them that it would be a good place to sell rugs.

It was. The family became prosperous selling rugs that they imported through personal relationships they maintained in the Middle East.

Vic Atiyeh stepped in as a leader of the Atiyeh Bros. carpet business when his father died in 1944. After the war, he worked together with his older twin brothers Edward and Richard to run the company. Vic learned about international trade from this standpoint, as the co-owner of a small family import business.

In 2000, Atiyeh Bros., Inc. celebrated its 100th anniversary.
