Victor Atiyeh served as governor of Oregon from 1979-1987. This is one part of an oral history interview that was originally recorded on over 60 cassette tapes by the Oregon Historical Society. It is accompanied by a typed transcript. This portion covers: Atiyeh's position on state employees during governorship; businessmen versus administrators for running state agencies, governorship; personal involvement in affairs of state government, governorship; observations of government bureaucracy during political career; promoting conservation and alternative energy development, 1981; Alumax Aluminum plant in Boardman, early 1980s; Northwest Regional Power Bill and Northwest Regional Power Planning Council, early 1980s.
